Its name derives from the Saracen pirates who found shelter on the beach. Catacombs & Archaeological Museum

The island’s catacombs, also known as the Early Christian catacombs, are the third largest Christian monument of this kind. They date from pre-Christian times and about 8,000 people have been buried into them. With a length of 185 meters [185 m] long and built in the area of the ancient city of Milos, they impress all visitors. If you want to know more about the island's history, then the Archaeological Museum of Milos is the ideal option. Housed in a neoclassical building of 1870, an architectural creation of Ernst Ziller, the museum includes exhibits from the ancient city of Klima, the prehistoric collection from Filakopi, as well as sculptures of the Hellenistic and Roman period.
